The Sundial Bridge

The sundial bridge is located in Redding, CA. The bridge rises to about 217 feet above the ground, and is more than just a bridge. Infact, the sundial bridge is actually the largest sundial in the world, hence the name of the bridge. The sundial is only completely accurate one day out of the year, the summer solstace on June 21st. The bridge is 700 feet long, and is used for pedestrian traffic only.

California Agriculture

The Sacramento Valley is home to some of the best farming in the world. You can find all sorts of different crops being planted throughout northern california. Everything from Almonds to Peaches, Kiwis to Oranges, Rice to Tomatoes, and much more.

Sutter Buttes

The Sutter Buttes are a range of inactive volcanoes just outside of Yuba City, CA. The highest peak reaches just over 2,100 feet. They are the worlds smallest mountain range. Most of the mountains are closed off to public access, although there are parts that are open for public hiking and other activites. In the 60's a missile silo was created at the bottom of the peaks, but was closed down after a few short years.

California Redwood Trees

Northern California is home to some of the largest and oldest trees in the world. While the most famous redwood trees of California are not within the boundaries of the California Roseville Mission, there are still a few hidden forest full of the massive redwoods. These redwood trees grow to heights of 300 ft. with the trunks up to 24 feet in diameter.

California Wildfires

During the Summer of 2008, there were multiple wildfires all throughout Northern California. Missionaries in the Paradise, CA area were temporarily moved because of heavy smoke and dangerous fire conditions. The fires were so large, and so plentiful, that the entire Sacramento Valley was full of smoke. The effects of the fires were felt in full force throughout the California Roseville Mission. Ashes were falling from the sky in many cities, including Chico and Oroville. A thick smoke blanketed the sky from Sacramento to Redding.

Sacramento Temple

The Sacramento Temple is the 123rd Operating Temple in the church. It was dedicated on September 3rd, 2006 by President Gordon B. Hinckley. The Temple is located in Rancho Cordova, a small suburb of Sacrament. Missionaries in the California Roseville Mission are able to attend the temple once every 3 months to 6 months depending on the location of their area.

Mt. Shasta

Mt. Shasta is one of the most dominating sights in the United States, standing at 14,179 feet above sea level. There are multiple legends about the mountain, many stemming from the Native Americans and the Spirit Chief Skell, who supposedly came from Heaven to the summit of Mt. Shasta. Theodore Roosevelt said of Mt. Shasta, "I consider the evening twilight on Mt. Shasta one of the grandest sights I have ever witnessed."
